Serial startup co-founder/exec (Anzen, Arbor Networks, Zattoo, Barracuda Networks, Scio Security) and open-source hacker (OpenBSD, OpenSSH, etc.) growing successful high tech companies in Ann Arbor.
There's a much better signal-to-noise ratio for startups here than elsewhere, which I believe has to do with Midwest culture and values (hard work, modesty, integrity, etc.) - and I say this as an East Coast transplant with most of my professional network on the coasts. I'm looking forward to seeing what our Midwest startup community can do when it comes together to share knowledge, experience, and inspiration.

"Yes, that sounds a good idea. Probably doing it afterwards is better since it will allow talking about presentations. However doing so allow you or the moderator reiterate the purpose of getting together (building relationships) and encourage attendees mingle with others as well. There's no harm reasserting the trivial (that we're here to build a community) since most of the time these simple details we tend to overlook. This will hopefully make the meetups look less like a marketing platform."
