Serve on a Nonprofit Board!

We're partnering with NEW's BoardConnect program to provide nonprofit board governance training at reduced cost ($35 vs $55) to members of Ann Arbor's tech community. The mission of BoardConnect is to strengthen communities by building the leadership skills of community members and connecting them with nonprofits for maximum community impact.

This three-hour training addresses the roles and responsibilities of a board member, including board operations, strategic planning, resource development, oversight and ambassadorship. You'll also learn about BoardConnect's matching services and boardnetUSA, a national online database that connects candidates and nonprofits. After training, receive assistance in finding a board seat for no additional charge!

What is a nonprofit?

A nonprofit is an organization whose primary objective is its mission. Profit is not the primary motive, but it is encouraged in order to put the money toward programming. There are no shareholders in nonprofit organizations.

Why join a nonprofit board?

Businesses whose employees show an interest in their community build brand loyalty within the community. Job satisfaction is shown as a result of serving the community. Networking opportunities and personal gratification stem from involvement in a community organization. Nonprofits are clamoring for the skills that professionals have to offer.

The new board members we have gained through NEW and BoardConnect have made a marked difference in our organization. This training will be followed by an invite-only board matching event on Thursday, April 30, at the Kensington Court Hotel, Ann Arbor for over 30 Arts & Culture, Human Service, Environmental, Educational, and Animal Welfare organizations, including 826 Michigan, Growing Hope, Appropriate Technology Collaborative, The Generation Project, The Stewardship Network, Another Ann Arbor, etc.
